IBM Power Virtual Server offers industry-leading performance, scalability, and reliability for SAP ERP landscapes. With over 4,500 customers running SAP HANA on Power, IBM Power is renowned for its highest SAP-certified memory scalability and leadership in SAPS performance benchmarks. Additionally, it is ranked as the most reliable among SAP-certified infrastructure platforms.

To accelerate the cloud adoption of Power deployments, IBM has introduced automation for Day 1 and Day 2 operations in Power Virtual Server. This automation can significantly reduce the time taken for SAP deployment from weeks to hours and helps eliminate errors and configuration variances. More details about the automated components can be found in Mike Moore’s blog post.

Deployable architectures

IBM Cloud offers automation in the form of “deployable architectures” (DAs). The GA release includes a DA specifically designed for SAP S/4HANA, combining the best practices from both IBM and SAP.

To access the DAs, visit the IBM Cloud catalog and select “Deployable architectures” from the filters on the left side of the page.

The catalog includes the “Power Virtual Server with VPC Landing Zone” DA and the “Power Virtual Server for SAP HANA” DA, along with other options.

Power Virtual Server with VPC landing zone

For clients migrating from on-premises to Power Virtual Server, the “Power Virtual Server with VPC landing zone” DA provides an automated deployment of the necessary components for network connectivity, storage configurations, and cloud infrastructure deployment. It includes provisioning VPCs, deploying VSI instances, configuring proxy servers, and more.

Power Virtual Server for SAP HANA

The “Power Virtual Server for SAP HANA” DA is designed specifically for deploying SAP S/4HANA software landscapes on IBM Power Virtual Server infrastructure. It automates the deployment of Power Virtual Server instances for SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver, and optional instances for sharing SAP files. It also connects these instances to proxy servers, NTP servers, DNS forwarders, and configures shared NFS directories.

Get started

These deployable architectures can automate not only SAP provisioning but also AIX, IBM i, or Linux deployments on Power Virtual Server. They can also be connected to x86-based workloads running on IBM Cloud, enabling users to take advantage of workload-optimized infrastructure across Power and x86.
