Wormhole Foundation has unveiled a new application-specific blockchain called Wormhole Gateway. Powered by the Cosmos SDK, Gateway aims to provide improved access and liquidity within the Cosmos ecosystem. The appchain is designed to be compatible and complementary to IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication).
Connecting Multiple Blockchains
Gateway enables Wormhole to connect more than 23 blockchains, including Osmosis, Evmos, and Neutron, across six runtimes to the Cosmos ecosystem. Through a liquidity router, users can bridge funds to any appchain within the Cosmos ecosystem without incurring additional bridging fees.
Furthermore, Wormhole Gateway seeks to enhance security and sovereignty for the protocol. In light of the hack that occurred on the Wormhole bridge in February 2022, resulting in the theft of 120,000 wETH ($325 million), security is a top priority. To bolster security, Wormhole introduced Governor, a module that limits cross-chain contagion in the event of a hack.
Automatic Relayers for Cross-Chain Messaging
In June, Wormhole introduced Automatic Relayers, a decentralized network of relayers that facilitates cross-chain messaging. This allows developers to deploy fully-functional cross-chain dApps using a single solidity contract, eliminating the need to develop, run, or manage an off-chain component.
With the launch of Wormhole Gateway, Wormhole aims to promote interoperability and expand the scope of the Cosmos ecosystem.
What is Wormhole Gateway?
Wormhole Gateway is an application-specific blockchain powered by the Cosmos SDK. It allows for improved access and liquidity within the Cosmos ecosystem.
How many blockchains can Wormhole connect with Gateway?
Gateway enables Wormhole to connect more than 23 blockchains, including Osmosis, Evmos, and Neutron, across six runtimes in the Cosmos ecosystem.
What is the purpose of Wormhole Governor?
Wormhole Governor is a module introduced by Wormhole to limit cross-chain contagion in the event of a hack. It enhances security within the Cosmos ecosystem.
What are Automatic Relayers?
Automatic Relayers are a decentralized network of relayers introduced by Wormhole. They facilitate cross-chain messaging and allow developers to deploy fully-functional cross-chain dApps using a single solidity contract.
How does Wormhole Gateway enhance security and sovereignty?
Wormhole Gateway aims to enhance security and sovereignty for the protocol by implementing measures such as the Wormhole Governor module, which limits cross-chain contagion in case of a hack.
Is there a fee for bridging funds to appchains within the Cosmos ecosystem?
No, Gateway allows users to bridge funds to any appchain within the Cosmos ecosystem without incurring additional bridging fees.
Wormhole Foundation has launched Wormhole Gateway, an application-specific blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, with the aim of improving liquidity and access within the Cosmos ecosystem. Gateway allows Wormhole to connect with over 23 blockchains across six runtimes, providing users with a liquidity routing system that eliminates bridging fees. The launch of Wormhole Gateway also includes security measures such as the Wormhole Governor module to limit cross-chain contagion. Additionally, Wormhole introduced Automatic Relayers, a network of relayers that enables cross-chain messaging for developers.
