Tether Holdings, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, Tether (USDT), has announced its commitment to enhance transparency by introducing real-time reserve data reporting by 2024. This move comes in response to ongoing concerns about the transparency of Tether’s reserves, which is crucial for maintaining trust in the stablecoin.

Current Transparency Measures

Currently, Tether updates its reserve data on a daily basis and releases monthly and quarterly reports. In its latest Q2 attestation performed by accounting firm BDO, Tether revealed that it had strengthened its excess reserves by $850 million, bringing the total excess reserves to $3.3 billion. The report also disclosed that Tether had approximately $72 billion worth of indirect exposure to United States Treasuries, which collateralized its overnight repurchase agreements.

Real-Time Reporting for Increased Credibility

The introduction of real-time reserve data reporting is a significant step for Tether in ensuring the stability and reliability of the stablecoin in the cryptocurrency market. This commitment will provide users and investors with immediate and up-to-date information on the assets backing the stablecoin, addressing previous criticisms and increasing credibility.

By enhancing transparency, Tether aims to create a trustworthy environment for stablecoin users and investors.
