Huobi Global, now known as HTX, has fallen victim to a hack resulting in the theft of 5,000 Ether (ETH), worth approximately $8 million. The attack was detected and reported by blockchain security and analytics platform Cyvers. In response, Huobi Global offered the hacker a 5% “white hat bonus” in an attempt to recover the stolen funds.

Justin Sun Ensures User Funds Are Safe

Tron founder, Justin Sun, confirmed the hacking incident and the loss of 5,000 ETH on HTX. However, he emphasized that the exchange has fully covered the losses and all user funds are safe. Sun also stated that platform operations are functioning normally.

The hack occurred on September 24, with the stolen amount initially estimated at $7.9 million. HTX promptly responded to the alert and publicly announced the incident. The exchange has warned the hacker that if the stolen funds are not returned within seven days, law enforcement will be involved.

This security breach follows a recent hack on the CoinEx crypto exchange, where North Korea’s Lazarus Group stole $70 million. CoinEx had temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals but has since resumed its services.
